About Brevard

Our Business Model

By Daniel Montgomery

Our Business Model
Our aim is to make great quality accessible. Every other watch on the market in this price point is using lower quality materials (easily scratched mineral glass instead of sapphire crystal, less accurate movements) with excessive marketing to make up for the lack in product quality.
In contrast, every other watch made with similar components is selling at double the price, or more. Most of that extra profit goes in to more advertising to promote the brand.
We’re trying a new approach. By keeping our business operations as lean and efficient as possible, we’re able to offer the quality of a luxury product at a lower price point than we’ve seen before. Our focus is on e-commerce, however we will also offer Brevard watches in select cities soon.

What’s inside a Brevard Watch?

What’s inside a Brevard Watch?
Brevard watches are built to last. All design decisions are centered around using the absolute best components, even if that results in a higher manufacturing cost than other watches in this range.
Brevard Watch with Leather Strap
The Case
The 316L brushed stainless steel used in our case is the same material present in surgical instruments due to its corrosion-resistant and magnetic-resistant properties. It’s widely used by luxury brands in the industry to ensure watches stay looking new, even after years of wear and exposure to all environments.
Sapphire Crystal
A defining feature of the Brevard Watch is the domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. Using this sapphire crystal instead of mineral glass gives the Brevard Watch the best scratch resistance possible. Sapphire crystals are second only to diamonds in their hardness, so you’ll never have to worry about scratching your watch.
One extra feature specific to the Brevard sapphire crystal is the anti-reflective coating on the inside of the crystal. AR coatings are commonly used on camera lenses and eyeglasses because they can reduce the glare from reflections. The downside is that AR-coated glass is extremely easy to scratch. Brevard’s solution to this is to coat only the inner-side of the crystal, giving the watch superb clarity while maintaining the scratch resistance of the sapphire crystal.
The Movement
Powering the Brevard watch is a Swiss-made Ronda Caliber 517 quartz movement. Using this high-end Swiss movement ensures the best possible accuracy. The day and date window quickly becomes an essential part of your life.

How it's made

By Daniel Montgomery

How it's made
The Brevard Watch
The traditional narrative in the West is that manufacturing a product in Asia is only done for cost reasons, and that the quality would be lower. However, we found that this could not be further from the truth. When we started our manufacturing research, we realized the expertise to manufacture anything other than ultra-luxury watches does not exist in the United States.
After getting samples from a variety of manufacturers in different geographic regions, we decided to partner with a watch manufacturer in Shenzhen to create the Brevard Watch with the nylon strap. More and more, companies are moving to China for their manufacturing not for the cost benefit, but because that is where the expertise is in 2016. Our watch movement is made in Switzerland to ensure the highest-standard of accuracy, and all other components (except for the leather strap) are custom manufactured for Brevard by our verified partners in Asia.
As an additional measure taken to ensure quality, all watches are tested at our headquarters in the US before being shipped out to any customer. If any watch isn't perfect, it doesn't go out the door.
The Leather Strap
The original plan was to include a leather strap with every watch, however good, responsibly-made leather is hard to find in Asia. Often, leather coming out of this region is produced in factories with toxic working conditions. We refuse to support this. In addition, titles such as “Genuine Leather” on a huge number of watch straps actually indicate that the strap is made of the lowest quality leather on the market.
Good leather is not cheap, but it is worth it. For our leather strap, we’re currently working with Choice Cuts, based in North Carolina. This is the best quality leather we’ve found. Like a good belt or pair of leather boots, it develops a beautiful patina after years of wear. Choice Cuts has been great to work with so far, so we encourage you to check out their online store for more strap options.
If you’re interested in buying any other leather strap to fit with the Brevard Watch, look for straps that are 18mm wide. For Choice Cuts specifically, our straps are 18mm wide and their “medium” length, a perfect size for smaller to medium-sized wrists. By using this industry standard size and spring-bar configuration, one can customize their Brevard watch with any of the thousands of 18mm straps out there.
